HDC Decision

See how the recommendations made by Hambleton District Council would affect the main villages in the area if they are implemented by the RAF ...

Village

HDC Recommendation

Effect

Newton

To fly the circuit for Runway 28 in a RIGHT hand direction

HDC have recommended that the original flying circuit for Runway 28 should be re-instated.  The RAF confirm that this original circuit does not overfly ANY residential areas.

During the past 12 months, HDC’s “trial circuits” have directed low flying aircraft directly over the centre of Newton on Ouse village - often at intervals of just two or three minutes.

Good news for the residents of Newton!

Linton

see note 1

To fly the circuit for Runway 04 in a RIGHT hand direction

This means that Linton village, including the Primary School, will be directly overflown by aircraft using the circuit for Runway 04 - one of the busiest runways at RAF Linton.

HDC decided AGAINST reinstating the original circuit for Runway 04 - even though it does not overfly ANY villages.

Tollerton

see note 1 and note 2

To fly the circuit for Runway 04 in a RIGHT hand direction

This recommendation will bring this aeroplane traffic even closer to Tollerton - the village already most heavily affected by aircraft noise from RAF Linton.

HDC decided AGAINST reinstating the original circuit for Runway 04 - even though it did not overfly ANY villages.

At their meeting on 15th March, HDC Cabinet considered only CIRCUIT traffic at RAF Linton. They failed to take into account that Tollerton is already heavily affected by NON-CIRCUIT traffic arriving and departing from Linton, including fast jets.

Note 1: At the HDC Cabinet meeting on March 15, a proposal was tabled to also re-position the circuit for Runway 22.  This ill-conceived and last minute change would have directed even MORE aeroplanes to fly over over Linton and Tollerton.

Fortunately common sense prevailed and the idea was rejected - not least because the RAF raised explicit concerns about  burdening these two villages even further.   Our thanks go to Group Captain Sudlow for standing up to this potentially disastrous proposal.

Note 2: Despite being provided with full details of the SAFA petition - with nearly 150 Tollerton residents asking for the original circuits to be reinstated - Tollerton Parish Council have failed to raise ANY objections to HDC about the adverse impacts of the new circuits on Tollerton.
