Have Hambleton District Council made a final decision about the circuits at RAF Linton?

What’s the position of the RAF now?
Hambleton District Council say that they just want flying to be spread fairly on a geographical basis - surely that’s reasonable?
I really don’t think the new circuits are safe OR fair! WHAT CAN I DO to raise my concerns?
Have Hambleton District Council made a final decision about the circuits at RAF Linton?
At Hambleton Cabinet meeting on March 15th, Councillors agreed that a recommendation should be made to the RAF as follows:
- The circuit for Runway 28 should revert back to the original position - to avoid overflying Newton on Ouse village
- The circuit for Runway 22 should remain unchanged as it avoids overflying any residential areas
- The circuit for Runway 04 should be changed on a permanent basis to overfly Linton village, including the Primary School, and to fly even closer to Tollerton than before.
Note that HDC have made a recommendation to the RAF. The Council has no legal power to enforce it.

Doesn’t this mean that the debate is all over?
Far from it!
Linton on Ouse Parish Council and hundreds of residents from Linton and Tollerton are continuing to press for ALL the original circuits to be reinstated.
And of course the SAFA group will continue to campaign vigourously in support of these aims.
The critical point is to avoid overflying ALL villages - something that the original circuits achieved very successfully for nearly ten years.

What’s the position of the RAF now?
Its clear that Hambleton District Council are now keen to pass this controversial issue back to the RAF and hope that the protests die down.
We are confident that, with the politicians out of the equation, the RAF will take full consideration of the impacts on the environment and on community relations when finalising the flying circuits.

Hambleton District Council say that they just want flying to be spread fairly on a geographical basis - surely that’s reasonable?
HDC claim to have made their recommendations to the RAF based on a policy of “equitable geographic spread of noise disturbance”.
However HDC’s policy is deeply flawed. Contrary to the Ombudsman’s guidelines, it is completely undocumented and there are no instructions as to how it should be applied and implemented.
But above all, the policy has failed to take into account the actual numbers of people likely to be affected by different circuit options. HDC have simply sought to crudely spread circuit patterns around the map in the belief that this achieves fairness.
All in all, HDC has made recommendations that are more driven by political interests than by logic or good practice.

I really don’t think HDCs recommendations to make changes to flying circuits are safe OR fair! WHAT CAN I DO to raise my concerns?
Make your concerns known - by writing a simple letter of objection to the RAF, to Anne McIntosh MP and to the Ministry of Defence.
